RE: Trip Calculator

The trip calculator is really nice. Thanks for your time and trouble. It looks like something the DW and I will use.

Need Insurance Advice

After having looked at about a dozen different TT and TV insurance plans, it still unnerves me. Would any of you share what you use and about what it costs per year? Do you have full replacement coverage? Hate to be a bother, but I really need some advice.

RE: What to tow?

The answer to this question was really tough on us. We had a brand new 2008 Ford F150. The Ford dealer assured us it would pull our TT. The dealer at Jayco said he thought we would be okay. Well, on our first trip, over Monteagle on I24E, it pulled us down to 35 miles per hour. To make a short story long, we had to trade for a 2008 F250 Heavy Duty Diesel. Now it pulls just fine. We really did hate giving up our new and paid for F150. Harry Anderson

RE: diesel prices

Actually, it doesn't cost as much as you think. Plus, the restaurants have gallons of used vegetable oil that they would be glad to get rid of. The actual cost is about .73 to make. anyone who is interested may contact my PM and I will send them all of the info I have. Harry Anderson

RE: diesel prices

All of us are feeling the crunch. We always go on line to see what gas prices are along the route and try to stop at those places. It really doesn't look like it is getting any better. My son and I are considering building a process that takes used vegetable oil and turns it into diesel. You can make it for about .73 a gallon.

Asking for some advice

This may have been discussed before and I missed it. However, I need some advice on two things. First, I have a 2008 Jayco 31V with one slide-out. I need to get a slide-out cover for it. One of those that rolls out when the slide goes out and rolls up when the slide goes in. I also would like to get a power tongue jack so that when I unhook/hookup I do not have to exert so much physical effort. I know that this is called lazy and I am. Always look for the easiest way to do anything. Where do I look for these things? You all have helped this Tennessee Boy on a lot of things and I look forward to your help on this. Thanks ahead of time. Harry Anderson

RE: Gulf Shores

Thanks, Norm. Your suggestions are quite helpful. If any of you all are ever headed our way, maybe I can be just as helpful. I have already learned so much from this forum. You guys and goils are the greatest. Hope everyone has a great Memorial weekend, it's coming soon. Harry

RE: Where to find Calgon?

Being a newbie, what does the Calgon water softener do for the Black tank. Should I be using it, too.

Gulf Shores

I am not sure that this is okay. If it is not forgive a newbie to the list. I am reasonable newbie to the site, but as we make our plans to go to Gulf Shores on May 30, do any of you have any suggestions about where to park with full hookup? We have a Jayco 33' and F250 Diesel. Sure would appreciate any info you all could share. Also any special stops along the way from Murfreesboro, Tennessee? Any suggestions on where to purchase diesel along the way. This will be our first really long trip. So wish us luck. Everyone is gifted, it just take some of us longer to open our packages.

RE: Jayco or Forest River

You will love your Jayco. I have a 2008 Jayco Feather LGT 31V. It's about 33' long with one slide-out and we are absolutely more pleased with it than anyuthing else we saw. It is so well constructed and easy to use. Indeed welcome to the forum and the Jayco Club. Harry

RE: Jayco or Forest River

I would encourage the Jayco. We bought our Jayco Jay Feather LGT 31V in June. Ours is a TT not a MH, but we shopped and shopped. Listened to the forum and opted for the Jayco. They are family owned and are quality built. We are just thrilled with our choice.

Landline Question

When you wish to connect your RV cable to a land line, what type of adapter do you need to make the connection from the RV ot the 120v land line? Thanks a lot. You are always so helpful.

Here's the Newbie again

My DW and I are heading out Monday to just roam around Kentucky for a few days. Suggestions would be welcome. However, I do have a few questions. Do we need a leveler for the slide out? We only have one on our Jayco, but we haven't seen anyone discuss it yet. What do you use in the commode to avoid any odors? What type of level do you use to be sure the trailer is level front to back and side to side? Do you put leveling blocks under both tires on each side, or just under one? I have a tandem axle on the trailer. Do we need to change the locks on our trailer door and the storage compartments? Should we purchase a surge protector? What do you recommend to clean and maintain the roof? Also to clean and polish the sides? We feel like we have become pretty educated by listening to other people's questions and we hope we do not become bothersome. Who knows we might park next to one of you sometime in our "Dream Catcher." A side question, "Do any of you travel to any of the big meets and if so, do you find it helpful? Thanks again for all of you help.

RE: Buying out of state

The idea is manarckey. The DW and I just purchased a Jayco out of South Carolina. Saturday, I took it in to Camping Corner in Nashville and was treated royally. They are a Jayco dealer, too.

RE: Newbie with lots of questions.

You are right about that yardmaster. Someone told me that WalMart had about everything I would need. I have four in our area and two are Super Stores. You are right, about a 3' section and many times it is half empty, or to be more positive, half full. I really do appreciate so many answering my questions. Tou all are just the greatest. Of course, you know that.
